Minnesota SEO Company
for Independent Businesses
We get independently-owned Minnesota businesses ranking in Google Maps and organic search. No national playbook. No long contracts. Real results from a local agency that knows your market.
The 7 signals Google uses to rank local businesses
Local SEO is not one thing. Google weighs seven categories of signals to decide who ranks in the map pack and organic results. Most businesses get one or two right and ignore the rest.
What this means for you: Most agencies optimize one or two of these signals and call it done. We build all seven in sequence, starting with the highest-weight signals first. GBP and reviews alone account for 49% of your ranking. That is where month one goes.
What local SEO management actually covers
Local SEO is not a one-time setup. Google recrawls, reviews come in, competitors update their profiles. Here is what we handle every month.
Google Business Profile setup and optimization
Primary category selection, full 750-character description, services list, Q&A pre-population, photo strategy, and NAP consistency. This is month one, week one, day one. See the full breakdown on our GBP management page.
Review generation and response
We set up an automated text-based system that asks every customer for a review after their appointment or job. We monitor and respond to every review that comes in. Businesses that respond to all reviews get 12% more reviews on average.
On-page SEO for your website
City names in title tags, H1s, and body copy. Schema markup that tells Google exactly what you are and where you operate. Page speed optimization. If your site is on GoDaddy or Wix, we rebuild it as part of every package. A slow, generic website is an active liability in local search.
Citation building and NAP cleanup
We audit your name, address, and phone number across every major directory and fix every mismatch. Dominate clients get 40+ new citations built each month, steadily growing the web of consistent signals that Google uses to verify you are a real, established business.
GBP posts and content
Momentum and Dominate clients get two GBP posts per week. Dominate clients get two blog posts per month targeting keywords their customers actually search. Content is how you build authority on topics that matter to your business over time.
Monthly reporting in plain English
Every month you get a one-page report: how many people searched and found you, how many called or clicked, new review count, and your current ranking versus a named local competitor. Not a PDF full of graphs. A real update that tells you whether the work is paying off.
Why national agencies fail Minnesota businesses
The agencies charging $1,500 to $5,000 per month are not bad at SEO. They are good at national SEO. Local SEO in Big Lake is not the same problem as local SEO in Dallas, and they treat it like it is.
They use a generic playbook
National agencies apply the same strategy to every client in every market. They do not know that trades in the smaller Minnesota markets are dominated by a handful of well-reviewed local operators, or that HVAC searches in those markets spike in late August before furnace season. We do.
They lock you in with contracts
6 to 12 month minimums are standard at national agencies. If the results do not come, you are still paying. We ask for a 3-month minimum, then it is month to month with 30 days notice to cancel. You stay because the work is good, not because a contract says you have to.
You talk to a junior account rep
At ProWeb365 or Hook Agency, the person who sold you the service is not the person doing the work. You email a support ticket and wait. At The Refiners Co, you talk directly to Chad. Every time.

Questions about local SEO
How long before I see results?
Most clients see movement in their map pack position within 60 to 90 days. The honest answer is that it depends on how competitive your city and niche are, and how far behind you are starting. We can tell you upfront based on your actual competitors. We do not promise page-one rankings in 30 days. Nobody who is telling you the truth does.
Do I need both a website and local SEO, or just one?
Both. Your GBP gets you into Google Maps. Your website gets you into organic search results below the map. They work together. A strong GBP with a weak website leaves half your potential traffic on the table. That is why every package includes a new website.
What is the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?
Regular SEO tries to rank nationally for competitive terms. Local SEO targets your specific city and service area. A plumber in Elk River does not need to rank for "plumber" nationally. They need to rank for "plumber Elk River MN" and "emergency plumber near me." Local SEO is narrower, faster, and directly tied to your actual customer base.
I tried SEO before and it did not work. Why would this be different?
The most common reason is that the previous agency used a national playbook on a local problem, or they optimized one signal (usually just the website) and ignored everything else. We are Minnesota-based, we research your specific market and competitors by name, and we work all seven ranking signals in sequence. If you can tell us what was done before, we can usually tell you in the first conversation where it went wrong.
Do you work with any business type?
Any independently-owned local business in Minnesota. HVAC, plumbing, electricians, auto repair, landscaping, restaurants, dental, pet services, law firms, and more. We do not work with franchises. See our niche-specific pages for HVAC and plumbing if that is your industry.
